Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on Egypt Allowing Humanitarian Aid into Gaza
New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) issued the following statement after President Biden’s announcement that Egypt has agreed to open the Rafah Border Crossing with Gaza to allow in humanitarian aid.
“Following my call with 106 of my colleagues for Egypt to take proactive measures to facilitate the distribution of humanitarian aid in southern Gaza, I am encouraged to see President Biden announce that Egypt has opened the Rafah Border Crossing to allow humanitarian aid from the United States into the Gaza Strip.
“I also hope Egypt will agree to our other request, which is to facilitate safe zones in southern Gaza where displaced Palestinian civilians can seek refuge until Hamas surrenders or is defeated.
“I am grateful for President Biden’s leadership during this profoundly important moment in history. He has ensured our democratic ally has the support it needs to defend herself against a vicious terrorist organization while also leading diplomatic efforts to provide necessary resources for Palestinian civilians.
“We have greatly benefited from his unparalleled diplomatic experience, ability to strengthen our alliances, and determination to thoughtfully and calmly address our global challenges.
“Most of all, I am thankful that he has prioritized the safe return of the illegal hostages, including Americans, as our primary immediate objective.”
