Congressman Dan Goldman Announces Grants for Nonprofits to Bolster Security
Grant Opportunity Announced as Incidents of Antisemitism and Anti-Asian Hate Rise to Record Levels
Nonprofits, Community Organizations, Places of Worship Increasingly Targets of Violence and Intimidation
Organizations Have Until April 20 to Apply for Up To $150,000 in Funding for Security Enhancements
New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today announced the open application period for U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), which is administered under the Federal Emergency Management Agency. As bigotry and incidents of hate crimes rise to record-levels, including an over 300 percent increase in anti-Asian hate crimes and a 34 percent increase in antisemitic incidents, non-profits, community organizations, and places of worship are increasingly targets of violence and intimidation. These grants are available to houses of worship, religious schools, and other nonprofits that could be a target. The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 20 at 5PM.
“As hate crimes rise to record levels, nonprofits, community organizations, and places of worship have increasingly become the target of violence and intimidation,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “We have an obligation to protect these organizations from violence and ensure they remain places of safety and security for families in our communities. My office and I are hard at work at the federal level to protect New Yorkers from hate and bigotry, and I encourage any nonprofit who feels that they could be a target of violence to apply.”
The Nonprofit Security Grant Program awards funds to nonprofit organization to invest in security enhancements including safety and security planning, training, and exercises, contract security guards, access/entry controls, security cameras, external lighting and more.
Each nonprofit may apply for up to $150,000 in grant funding per site.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is hosting two webinars for interested organizations to receive more information.
Interested nonprofit organizations can also go to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services website for more information on how to apply.
