2023 Congressional App Challenge Winners: HopeHunt

The Office of Representative Goldman is excited to announce the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for New York’s 10th District, Laiali Tapper and Jia Michel from Saint Ann’s School. They created their app HopeHunt using Swift UI.

When asked to describe their app, Laiali and Jia said:

“Our app allows people to log and keep track of their community service hours, find volunteer opportunities and protests in their area based on their specific interests, and receive badges as incentives for continuing to give back to their community. As you complete a specific number of hours, you will be awarded badges to encourage you to keep up the good work. The last feature the app has is a page that allows you to find community service opportunities around you. You can filter based on which of the UN's sustainable development goals you are interested in helping with (eg. No Poverty, Climate Action, Peace & Justice), how much time you can commit, and the type of action you would like to take.”

Laiali and Jia created the app to bring volunteer opportunities to fellow students who are interested in giving back to their community. If they were to continue building out HopeHunt, they would add a feature that allows local organizations to post volunteer opportunities directly to the app.

As the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for New York’s 10th District, Laiali and Jia will be invited to attend #HouseofCode, where they can demonstrate their app to Members of Congress.
