Congressman Dan Goldman Announces Rubin Museum of Art Named Finalist for 2023 National Medal for Museum And Library Service

NY-10 Institution Honored for Extraordinary and Innovative Community Service

Washington D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today announced that the Rubin Museum of Art has been named a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The National Medal for Museum and Library Service is the nation’s highest honor for institutions that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities. The Rubin Museum, located in New York’s 10th Congressional District, is among the 30 finalists announced this month. National Medal winners will be announced in late May.

“It is my honor to announce that one of NY-10's incredible museums, the Rubin Museum of Art, has been named a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service,” Congressman Dan Goldman said.“The Rubin Museum has been a staple in Lower Manhattan since its opening in 2004 and this honor is well-deserved. Peerless cultural institutions like the Rubin Museum are a large part of what makes New York’s 10thCongressional District the best district in the country.”

The Rubin Museum of Art is dedicated to the collection, display, and preservation of the art and cultures of the Himalayas, the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia and other regions within Eurasia, with a permanent collection focused particularly on Tibetan art. The Museum fosters an environment that promotes understanding, stimulates learning, and inspires personal connections to the Himalayan regions' ideas, cultures, and art.

Since 1994, the Institute of Museum and Library Services has presented the National Medal to institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to community service.

The Institute is the primary source of federal support for the nation's museums and libraries. They advance, support, and empower America's museums, libraries, and related organizations through research, grantmaking, and policy development. The Institute envisions a nation where communities and individuals have access to museums and libraries to learn and be inspired by trusted ideas, information, and stories.

The winners of the National Media will be announced in late May, a ceremony and celebration will be held in Washington, DC, this summer.
