New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) yesterday  called on Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary Deb Haaland to deliver funding to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in order to ensure the timely approval of offshore wind energy projects. This funding, included in the Inflation Reduction Act, would support offshore wind development and help the U.S. meet offshore wind energy production targets.

“Investing in our offshore wind industry is a win-win: an investment in well-paying American jobs and a clean energy future,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “The Inflation Reduction Act contained the largest investments in the fight against climate change in our country’s history and we are excited to put those funds to use in meeting President Biden’s ambitious wind energy production targets. I am proud to join my colleagues in doing everything we can to ensure a cleaner, greener American future.”

Congress included several provisions and funding allocations in the Inflation Reduction Act to help achieve the ambitious wind energy production goals set by President Biden. This includes $150 million for DOI to bolster their ability to conduct timely and robust environmental reviews.

In their letter to DOI Secretary Deb Haaland, Congressman Goldman and over 30 other members of Congress urge the DOI to provide a significant amount of those funds to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). This funding would ensure that the BOEM would have the tools and resources needed to efficiently approve offshore wind energy projects.

As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, Congressman Goldman continues to make mitigating the impacts of climate change a core issue priority during his first term.

Earlier this month, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act to claw back windfall profits to the largest oil companies while lowering consumer costs for relief rebates. He also cosponsored the Energy Resilient Communities Act to invest in critical infrastructure in the aftermath of extreme weather events.

During his first month in office, the Congressman filed the Green Equity Amendment to replace the special interest fossil fuel giveaway requirements of the Republican Big Oil Bill with requirements that meet President Biden’s greenhouse gas reduction and climate justice goals. This amendment would overturn the Republican fossil fuel giveaway and require certification that the Paris Climate Accords and Justice40 Initiative Targets are being met before tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Congressman Goldman understands that climate change presents some of the most pressing dangers to our future and is committed to doing everything in his power to create a clean energy future for our families.
