Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today celebrated the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded a $5,664,000 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant to the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) to support the development of an Urban Freight Mobility Collaborative. This initiative will develop actionable, innovative, equity-centered low and zero emission freight delivery strategies for New York City. In February of last year, Congressman Goldman wrote a letter to USDOT in support of NYCDOT’s grant application.

New York City faces significant challenges in moving freight efficiently and safely, with 365 million tons of goods transported annually. Driven by increased e-commerce, 90 percent of goods are delivered by trucks, many still using old, polluting diesel engines. Building on the Smart Truck Management Plan and Delivering Green reports, this effort will expand NYC DOT initiatives, address truck parking issues, and explore low emission delivery zones and smart mobility technologies.

“I am proud to have helped secure $5.6 million for the NYC Department of Transportation to begin reimagining our transportation infrastructure,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “New York City's future depends on sustainable and equitable solutions, and the Urban Freight Mobility Collaborative is a key step in that direction. By focusing on low and zero emission freight delivery strategies, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers.”

The RAISE grant program, which was authorized $1.5 billion annually by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, supports a diverse slate of communities with projects of local and regional significance. Funding is split equally between urban and rural areas, and a large percentage of grants support regions defined as historically disadvantaged or areas of persistent poverty.

Congressman Dan Goldman is committed to improving transportation throughout NYC.

Congressman Goldman, along with Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez (NY-07), announced a $5.6 million Reconnecting Communities Grant Award for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).

Goldman is a member of the Future of Transportation Caucus, which is dedicated to creating a vision for the future of our transportation system that emphasizes equity, access, safety, and sustainability.
