Brooklyn, NY - Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) yesterday hosted an event to commemorate Jewish American Heritage Month at the Amico Senior Center in Borough Park. Congressman Goldman presented Lt. Ira Jablonsky, Dolly Rabinowitz, and Yidel Perlstein with Commendations in the Congressional Record for their service to New York’s Jewish Community.

“As a proud American Jew and the Representative of one of the largest Jewish populations in the country, Jewish American Heritage Month is particularly meaningful to me,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “I’m proud to have hosted this event to celebrate Jewish American Heritage, reflect on the deep connections and rich history the Jewish people have to America, and acknowledge the work we still have ahead of us in fighting against antisemitism, including in the Orthodox community. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to commend last night’s special guests, who exemplify a strong spirit of resiliency and community service.”

Dolly Rabinowitz is a Holocaust survivor and educator in New York City. She has continued to share her story to remind people that there must never again be an atrocity like the Holocaust.

Lt. Ira Jablonksy is a Lieutenant Special Assignment with the New York Police Department. As an officer with the NYPD, he has worked to catch several high-profile antisemitic vandals who threatened the safety and security of Jewish Brooklynites.

Yidel Perlstein is the Chair of the Brooklyn Community Board 12. During his tenure as Chair, he has organized voter outreach, community forums, and represented Borough Park’s interests to elected officials across the country. He also runs food drives for needy people across Borough Park.

Since taking office, Congressman Goldman has prioritized fighting against bigotry and protecting Jewish communities from hate and violence. Goldman’s grandmother fled from Russia due to antisemitism in 1921.

Last month, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the House Resolution recognizing the month of May as Jewish American Heritage Month and encouraging the celebration of the contributions of Jewish Americans to the society and culture of the United States.

On the floor of the House, he delivered a floor speech highlighting the alarming rise and normalization of antisemitism around the country and urged members of Congress to come together to fight hate.

Congressman Goldman also demanded the Department of Justice provide an overview of law enforcement agencies underreporting hate crimes and bring these agencies into compliance to mitigate hate crimes across the country.

In order to combat decreasing knowledge of the Holocaust, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the Holocaust Education and Antisemitism Lessons (HEAL) Act to improve and expand Holocaust education for future generations.

Congressman Dan Goldman is a member of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism.
