Congressman Dan Goldman Comments on Congressman Ogles' Proposed Constitutional Amendment Allowing Trump to Run for a Third Term
January 23, 2025
Washington D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10), today gave the following comment after Rep. AndyOgles (TN-05) proposed a constitutional amendment that would allow Donald Trump to seek a third term. This amendment follows Trump’s repeated insinuations that Congressional Republicans should “figure something else out” that would allow him to serve a third term.
In November of 2023, Congressman Goldman introduced a resolution which would re-affirm that the 22nd Amendment is explicit in prohibiting Presidents who have served two full terms from running for the Presidency again and condemn President-Elect Donald Trump’s frequent statements suggesting he could serve past the end of his most recent term.
“By now, Donald Trump’s pattern is predictable: ‘joke’ about something unconstitutional or authoritarian; normalize the ‘joke’; allow sycophantic Republicans to adopt the ‘joke’ as a serious idea until it becomes MAGA orthodoxy,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Rep. Ogles has followed the playbook perfectly by proposing a constitutional amendment to allow Trump to serve a third term. While I’m grateful that he acknowledges that a third term would require a constitutional amendment, nothing Donald Trump says or does is funny.”
