New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) yesterday hosted representatives from the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, State University of New York Maritime, and City University of New York Army ROTC to share information for high schoolers interested in applying to the academies.
"One of the most important roles a Congressional office has is to nominate eligible high school students to America’s Service Academies,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Students who receive a Congressional Nomination can go on to pursue a prestigious education of the highest quality, at no personal cost. Over the course of their education and commission, these young men and women will learn the necessary skills and discipline to be the next generation of America’s leaders – truly exemplifying the best of our nation’s values.”
To attend most Service Academies, a student must be accepted by the institution and also have a nomination from either their Senator or their Member of Congress. Each academy has their own application requirements that must be met for appointment. Congressman Goldman hosted an informational session to help interested students navigate their application to Service Academies and understand the process for seeking his nomination.
The number of nominations per Congressional office is limited, and the application process is highly competitive.
