Congressman Dan Goldman Fights to Protect Abortion Rights with Bill Package Sponsorship, Membership in Pro-Choice Caucus
Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Healthcare (EACH) Act Repeals Hyde Amendment; Guarantees Abortion Coverage Regardless of Insurance
H.Res. 27 Condemns Acts of Political Violence on Reproductive Health Care Facilities
H.Res. 28 Condemns SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe V. Wade
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman cosponsored a package of legislation to protect abortion rights in wake of the Supreme Court decision to rip away women’s fundamental rights. The package of legislation follows Goldman’s votes against GOP bills that would restrict abortion access in his first week as Congressman. Goldman will continue leading on the fight to restore access for women across the country.
The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Healthcare (EACH) Act would repeal the Hyde Amendment and guarantee abortion coverage regardless of health insurance status. H.Res. 27 condemns all acts of political violence regardless of target or intent, especially related to abortion services facilities. And H.Res. 28 condemns the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade.
Congressman Goldman also became a member of the Pro-Choice Caucus in the House of Representatives in his first weeks in Congress.
"Individual freedom is a core American value that gives women the fundamental right to control their own bodies,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Republicans’ use of government to dictate women’s reproductive rights is unconstitutional and unacceptable. That is why I am joining my colleagues in cosponsoring these important pieces of legislation that will help preserve and protect the fundamental right to reproductive freedom in this country.”
EACH Act
The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Healthcare (EACH) Act would repeal the Hyde Amendment and lift unjust abortion coverage restrictions for those who depend on Medicaid and other government-sponsored health plans. The bill helps ensure everyone can access the reproductive health care they need, regardless of income, insurance, or zip code. The EACH Act is sponsored by Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-12).
H.Res. 27
H.Res. 27 condemns all forms of political violence in the U.S., regardless of target or intent. The resolution comes as a direct response to a measure House Republicans voted on condemning recent attacks on anti-choice facilities, but ignores similar attacks on those seeking or providing abortion care in the U.S.
The GOP’s blatant refusal to condemn the violence against pro-choice entities as part of their resolution sends a dangerous message that could further embolden the extremists behind such attacks.
Unlike the Republican-led resolution that condemns only the violence against anti-choice facilities, the resolution offered by the pro-choice leaders condemns all forms of political violence in U.S. This resolution was sponsored by Rep. Diana DeGette (CO-01).
H.Res. 28
H.Res. 28 condemns the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and reaffirms a commitment to advancing reproductive justice and judicial reform.
Approximately 64,000,000 women and girls of reproductive age live in the United States, and more than half of them live in states that could seek to ban or further restrict access to abortion now that the Supreme Court overturned Roe and Casey. As Justices Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan stated in their dissenting opinion, the holding in Dobbs results in the “curtailment of women’s right, and of their status as free and equal citizens.” Women living in poverty, people of color, undocumented persons, as well as transgender and gender non-binary individuals will be disproportionately harmed by the Supreme Court’s action.
The decision to end the federal constitutional right to an abortion strips these groups of choice and will have reverberating negative personal and financial outcomes, including financial instability, the ability to attain higher education, as well as disruptions to the overall health care for people reliant on clinics for preventative care. This resolution was sponsored by Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13).
