Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today joined other founding members of the Congressional Dads Caucus in hosting the inaugural Congressional Dads Caucus Roundtable Discussion. Bringing in working family advocates and experts, members of the Dads Caucus discussed policies that will uplift families across the country including reinstating the child tax credit, increasing access to quality childcare, creating paid family and medical leave, and tackling the existential threat of climate change. Congressman Goldman also stressed the need for comprehensive, commonsense gun reform following the elementary school shooting in Nashville, TN this week, the 13th school shooting in 2023 and the 38th mass shooting this month, that left three 9-year-olds dead.
“The Congressional Dads Caucus Advocates Roundtable was an incredibly powerful and productive opportunity to hear the stories of working parents from across the country,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Any parent knows that raising kids is never easy, but government has the ability to uplift working families and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed. I am proud to be a part of the Dads Caucus to advocate for positive policy solutions and look forward to many more conversations like this one to inform the work we are doing to families thrive.”
Congressman Goldman was joined at the inaugural Dads Caucus Advocates Roundtable by: Mansie Meikle, a single mother of three from New York who faced houselessness due to a lack of childcare; Nicholas Knight, an Annapolis father whose family finances were jeopardized by a lack of paid leave during a health emergency; Kevin Smith, an affordable healthcare advocate; and Elisa Minoff, a social policy expert focusing on economic security.
The Congressional Dads Caucus was launched to highlight the many challenges American families are facing, and bring the lived experience of Congressional parents to bear in addressing them. The Congressional Dads Caucus provides a forum for Members of Congress to advocate for legislation that supports working families.
In addition to supporting legislation that advances these solutions, the Caucus hosts briefings and events designed to educate and inform Members of Congress and the public about the needs of working parents, including a national paid family and medical leave program and affordable childcare. These events allow Members to hear from children and families directly on the challenges they face and opportunities they need to succeed.
Other founding members of the Congressional Dads Caucus include Representatives Jimmy Gomez, Rashida Tlaib, Joaquin Castro, Andy Kim, Jamaal Bowman, Rob Menendez.
