Congressman Dan Goldman Joins Equality Caucus to Fight for the Fundamental Rights of the LGBTQI+ Community
Goldman Pledges to Stand Up for LGBTQI+ Community Under Attack by Elected Republicans
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) joined the Congressional Equality Caucus to fight for equality and the fundamental rights of LGBTQI+ Americans. Founded in 2008, the mission of the Congressional Equality Caucus is to promote equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics. The Caucus is strongly committed to achieving the full enjoyment of human rights for LGBTQI+ people in the U.S. and around the world.
“I am honored to join the Congressional Equality Caucus and to stand side by side with members of the LGBTQI+ community in the fight to protect their fundamental rights,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “We cannot sit idly by as elected Republicans across the country hatefully target members of the community, dehumanize LGBTQI+ youth, and attempt to undermine basic equality. I am committed to pursuing equal rights under the law for the LGBTQI+ community and rooting out hate wherever it shows itself.”
For years, members of the LGBTQI+ community have fought for equal rights. For a time, it seemed we were on the right path as a country. But today, we are seeing an increase in hate directed at the LGBTQI+ community, especially transphobia targeting children in schools across the nation.
As Republican-led legislatures pass bills that force educators to pretend the LGBTQI+ community doesn’t exist, and with Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurrence from the Dobbs decision specifically calling into question the legal foundation for marriage equality, the fundamental rights of LGBTQI+ couples and youth are under attack.
Goldman will work tirelessly to protect the rights of the LGBTQI+ community and prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity at the federal level.
