New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) requested $1 million for The Chinese-American Planning Council’s Adult Workforce Development and Youth Training Program Facility in the Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding appropriations process. These funds will be used for critical renovations to the facility including accessibility upgrades for people with disabilities. The Chinese-American Planning Council’s (CPC) Workforce Development Division was created in 1975 in response to an acute need for skilled workers in New York City with the primary mission to provide advanced services, skill upgrades, and employment-related resources to individuals who are motivated to advance their careers.
“Many small businesses in New York have a critical need for skilled workers and the outreach and effort of the Chinese-American Planning Council is vital to supporting New York’s economy,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “A pillar of the Lower Manhattan and Chinatown community, I am proud to support the CPC in their efforts to assist underrepresented populations obtain high-paying jobs.”
Wayne Ho, President and CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council said, “The Chinese-American Planning Council thanks Congressman Goldman and his team for supporting our community project funding proposal. With this funding, we will be able to renovate our Adult Workforce Development and Youth Training Program Facility, providing economic development, workforce training, and educational preparation to over 3,500 low-income and immigrant New Yorkers annually, while also creating hundreds of job opportunities. Through the new workforce training and innovation hub, we will collaborate with local partners to enhance outreach and recruitment efforts to underrepresented populations in STEM and other high-wage industries, and empower our community members with the tools and resources to succeed in today's job market.”
The Chinese-American Planning Council’s education, training, placement, and post-placement support service methods are characterized by its highly individualized and goal-oriented approach. The facility provides economic development, workforce training, and educational preparation for youth and adults and benefits low income, immigrant, AAPI, Hispanic, Black, women, and other underrepresented populations in STEM and other high-wage industries. The Planning Council’s Workforce Development Facility serves 3,500 people every year.
