Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) was today recommended to the House Committee on Homeland Security by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

"New York’s Tenth district is one of the most diverse in the nation and encapsulates better than perhaps any other the founding ideal of this country that we are a nation of immigrants,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “My grandmother escaped antisemitism in Russia, coming to this country through Ellis Island before settling down and raising a family that now includes a member of Congress. I will work tirelessly on the Committee to fight for comprehensive immigration reform and a more humane immigration system, to ensure that those who come to our shores seeking a better future for themselves and their families can pursue the American dream as my family did.”

The Committee on Homeland Security holds significant importance to New York’s Tenth District and New York City writ large. More than one million people in New York live in a household with at least one undocumented immigrant, and more than 22 million people in the United States live in mixed-status families.

Goldman represents one of the most diverse districts in the country that welcomes people from across the world. The Tenth district overlooks landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, which reflect our city’s belief that immigrants make our country stronger and symbolize hope for all persons seeking opportunity in America.

Goldman is committed to protecting our asylum laws and enacting comprehensive immigration reform to ensure our nation lives up to the ideals symbolized by those historic landmarks.

The Committee on Homeland Security would also provide Goldman's constituents with an important voice on counterterrorism, disaster relief, and democracy. He is well-suited to make meaningful contributions to the Committee’s work on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, as well as Transit and Maritime Security as a former staff member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and former federal prosecutor.

These issues are of the utmost importance to Goldman's constituents, many of whom survived the attacks on the Twin Towers on 9/11.

The Tenth district’s experience with Hurricane Sandy and other serious natural disasters make the Committee's work on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery urgent and relevant.

Goldman's HPSCI experience conducting oversight of election interference and his passion for defending our democracy and expanding voting rights will serve him well as the Committee works on election security issues ahead of the 2024 election.
