Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) joined Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) to introduce the ‘Working Families Task Force Act’ which would establish a federal task force to improve the standard of living for working families in America. This legislation would require the Secretary of Labor, in consultation with the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Treasury, Transportation, and Agriculture to establish an Interagency National Task Force on Working Families.
“As a founding member of the Congressional Dads Caucus, I’ve made it my priority to fight for legislation and policies that will uplift working families across the country,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “The problems faced by our middle-class families cannot be tackled in a piecemeal manner. We need a strong, central task force to direct resources and coordinate a national strategy to help all working families nationwide.”
The task force will act to assess the effectiveness of current federal policies and programs in helping working families achieve an improved standard of living and quality of life, while developing policy recommendations to:
- Address affordability challenges;
- Improve access to quality jobs with livable wages and strong labor standards;
- Expand affordable child care for all families;
- Revise tax policies such as the Child Tax Credit and Earned-Income Tax Credit, that assist children and families;
- Support home care and medical for seniors and families that need assistance;
- Increase access to affordable housing;
- Create more educational and work force training opportunities; and
- Provide financial literacy services
Earlier this year, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the ‘Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act’ which included provisions to extend WIC eligibility for new moms. This extension is intended to ensure that mothers and newborns have their nutritional needs met, improving maternal and child health outcomes and advancing birth equity across the United States.
Additionally, the Congressman cosponsored the ‘SNAP Access for Medically Vulnerable Children Act’ to expand SNAP benefits for families with chronically sick children, helping to alleviate the tremendous emotional and financial burden of having a sick child.
Earlier this month, Goldman cosponsored the ‘WIC For Kids Act’ to increase access to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program under the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.
Congressman Dan Goldman is a founding member of the Congressional Dads Caucus.
