Congressman Dan Goldman's Statement on President Trump's Purges of Department of Education Office for Civil Rights Staff

February 13, 2025

Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement on President Trump's purges of the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights Staff:

“I am disgusted and disappointed that the unconstitutional purges that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are carrying out throughout the federal government have now reached the Department of Education, including the Office for Civil Rights.

“As the only way for the government to effectively combat and remedy antisemitism on college campuses and schools around the country, the Office for Civil Rights needs more support and resources than ever before. For years, the Office for Civil Rights has been understaffed and overstretched, even more so after approximately 200 antisemitism complaints have been made since October 7th.

“While President Trump has paid lip service to combating antisemitism, this move demonstrated that he will not take the actions necessary to match the words.

“If the President truly cares about protecting Jewish students on college campuses, he must immediately reverse these cuts and reinstate these vital employees. Our Jewish students deserve that support.”
