Congressman Dan Goldman's Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision in Food and Drug Administration V. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, Which Upheld Access to Mifepristone

June 13, 2024

Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, which upheld access to mifepristone.

“While today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for protecting access to medication abortion, it is only a temporary one.

“The Court ruled that the plaintiff doctors and medical organizations have no standing to have a court overrule the FDA’s authorization of medication abortion. But the Court neither ruled out future challenges to medication abortion nor corrected its own erroneous opinion in Dobbs to deny women a constitutional right to reproductive freedom.

“We must not become complacent. Make no mistake: the Republican war against reproductive freedom may have hit a road bump today, but it continues full steam ahead in state legislatures and courts around the country.

“I remain committed to doing everything possible to expand access to medication abortion and ultimately codify reproductive freedom into federal law so that we can protect the fundamental right to reproductive health now and forever.”
