Congressman Dan Goldman’s Statement on Two Year Anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Decision in Dobbs to Overturn Roe v. Wade

June 24, 2024

New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement on the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the nearly 50 years of precedent established in Roe v. Wade.

“Two years after the Supreme Court’s shocking Dobbs decision ripping away reproductive freedom around the country, our worst fears have become reality.

“Nearly two dozen states have banned abortion, jeopardizing the health of numerous women. Republicans are planning to pass a national abortion ban and to eliminate the availability of safe and effective medication abortion.

“But Republicans aren’t just attacking reproductive freedom through abortion restrictions. IVF is now under threat nationwide as states attempt to pass fetal personhood laws. Even contraception rights are squarely in their crosshairs.

“Women have died because of the Dobbs decision. Tens of thousands of women have been forced to carry their rapists’ children to term, and thousands more have had to travel across state lines just to access the reproductive health care they need.

“This fight is simply too important to give up. I am proud that New York stands as one of our country’s remaining safe havens for reproductive health care. But we cannot stop there. All women, no matter their zip code deserve access to their basic reproductive freedoms.

“We have a simple and stark choice in November: the Democratic Party that believes in individual freedom or the Republican Party that wants to control women’s bodies.”
