NEW YORK, N.Y. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) convened a Downtown Brooklyn Leaders Roundtable at St. Francis College today, joined by Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon, City Council Member Lincoln Restler, and the offices of State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, and local neighborhood and business leaders from Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and Boerum Hill. The roundtable provided a forum to share updates on legislative work, discuss pressing community concerns, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

“The diverse and vibrant neighborhoods of Downtown Brooklyn — from Dumbo to Cobble Hill — face pressing challenges that require collaboration across community leaders, local organizations, and government partners,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “I was pleased to bring together leaders from those neighborhoods to listen to their pressing worries, coordinate our efforts to address urgent priorities like affordable housing, small business support, public safety, and food security, and ensure that our community thrives.”

Participants highlighted pressing issues such as:
  • Housing and affordability – Protections for tenants, the building of new affordable housing
  • Food security – preserving SNAP benefits and supporting local food access programs
  • Small business and economic development – assisting neighborhood businesses and promoting equitable growth
  • Public safety – strengthening community partnerships and tackling quality of life issues
  • Education and workforce development – supporting local schools and job training programs, pathways to employment for young adults, supporting higher education institutions
  • Health and mental health – providing support to those with mental health conditions, access to Medicare and Medicaid
  • Protecting democracy and getting constituents civically engaged and informed

Congressman Goldman has worked across all levels of government to support affordable housing, protect public benefits, strengthen small businesses, and advance public safety initiatives.

Earlier this year, Goldman led efforts to secure Employee Retention Tax Credit refunds for New York-based small businesses, fought to protect affordable housing programs from Trump administration cuts, and co-led the Chief Herbert D. Proffitt Act to ensure families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty are not denied benefits due to arbitrary retirement designations.
