Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the Anniversary of the September 11 Terror Attacks
New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement to mark the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks.
“Twenty-three years ago today, we experienced the worst terrorist attack on American soil and lost nearly 3,000 of our friends, loved ones, and neighbors.
“Living in downtown Manhattan on September 11th, I will never forget watching the second plane hit the Towers and the soot-covered people walking up Hudson Street.
“We must also never forget the overwhelming patriotism that New Yorkers displayed in the face of the evil that attacked our soil on that day. Our City and our country owe an enormous debt of gratitude and appreciation to those who risked everything in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and in the months and years that followed.
“I am incredibly proud to represent the resilient Lower Manhattan community that has kept the memory of our loved ones alive. In the aftermath of the attacks, first responders returned to Ground Zero day after day, searching for signs of life and clearing the burning rubble. Survivors have displayed immense strength in caring for, rebuilding, and transforming our City.
“Today, we take a moment to mourn those we lost, acknowledge those whose lives have been forever changed, and thank the first responders who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. In their honor, we must ensure that evil never triumphs over the American spirit.
“We are — and must always remain — New York Strong.”
