Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on House Republicans’ Sham Impeachment of United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas

Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement after House Republicans rammed through an impeachment vote against United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.

“After failing just last week to find the votes necessary for their sham impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas, Republican House Leadership once again embarked on their quest to debase the Constitution and please Donald Trump.

“Over the past month, Speaker Johnson has shown the American people precisely where his priorities lie: he does not care about helping our allies and he does not care about addressing the issues at the border. Speaker Johnson is beholden to an audience of one – Donald Trump – and his personal revenge tour targeted at the Oval Office.

“Impeachment should never be used as a political tool. Today marks a dark day for the House of Representatives, which will forever be tarnished by this baseless ploy.

“My Republican colleagues who voted to put their own political interests above the sanctity of the impeachment clause of the Constitution should be ashamed.”
