Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on H.R. 5179, the Anti-BDS Labeling Act
Washington, DC - Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement on his plans to oppose H.R. 5179, The Anti-BDS Labeling Act.
“As a proud Zionist and steadfast supporter of Israel, I have consistently condemned the ‘Boycott-Divest-Sanction (BDS)’ movement, which I believe to be antisemitic. I also strenuously oppose any consideration by universities or business to divest from Israeli businesses.
“While I would eagerly vote for a bill that opposes the BDS movement, H.R. 5179 does nothing to address the fundamental problems with the BDS movement. Instead, House Republicans are once again attempting to exploit the war in Israel for political gain.
“This bill amounts to a rejection of the framework for a peaceful solution with self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians, as outlined in the Oslo Accords. It also ratifies the counterproductive settlement expansion in the West Bank.
“A two-state solution must remain our long-term goal — once Israel is confident in its permanent security and Palestinians are represented by a legitimate government. This legislation would unnecessarily codify additional obstacles to such a peaceful solution.
“I therefore will be voting against H.R. 5179 and urge all of my colleagues who seek a peaceful future in the region to join me.”
