Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the MTA Board’s Vote to Approve Congestion Pricing

March 27, 2024

New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement after the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Board voted to approve the implementation of congestion pricing in New York’s Central Business District (CBD).

“Today, the MTA Board voted to bring our City one step closer to implementing congestion pricing for New York’s Central Business District. This historic program is the first of its kind in the United States and will be critical to reducing congestion, improving air quality and street safety, and paving the way for a massive investment in our public transit system.

“As we prepare for final implementation this summer, it is crucial that the concerns of our working-class communities are centered throughout the process. That includes expanding fare-free bus routes and ensuring mitigation efforts are in place to support environmental justice communities.

“The congestion pricing plan and model will revolutionize our City’s public transportation system, and I am looking forward to working hand in hand with the MTA, state and local leaders, and members of the community to ensure its smooth implementation for the betterment of our City.”
