Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on Passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 to Fund the Federal Government

March 6, 2024

Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed HR 4366, ‘The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024,’ the first of two funding deals needed to fund the federal government and avoid a government shutdown. This funding package includes 6 bills: Agriculture-FDA, Commerce-Justice and Science, Energy and Water Development, Interior, Military Construction-VA and Transportation-HUD.

“Today, I joined my colleagues in voting to pass this bill in order to avoid what could have been a disastrous government shutdown and fund half of the government.

“Democrats fought tooth and nail against Republican attempts to impose cuts and policies that would have hurt everyday Americans. Today, we brought home a win for New York families. Essential nutrition programs that low-income families rely on, like WIC and SNAP, have now been fully funded. In fact, the final bill includes an additional $1 billion in WIC funding to help support pregnant mothers and families with young children. Additionally, we also secured huge victories for affordable housing with hundreds of millions more dollars going to rental assistance programs and public housing authorities like NYCHA.

“This deal includes critical investments in our communities. In this initial round of government funding, I secured more than $10 million for organizations across NY-10. These funds will help these organizations to address food insecurity, provide essential child services, and uplift our underserved communities. I am excited to announce these funds in the coming weeks, and to help our community-based organizations continue their great work.

“I recognize that this bill is not perfect, as is often the case in divided government. But I will continue to fight every day to address the scourge of gun violence, the existential threat of climate change, and to expand vital government programs that increase access to opportunity for all.

“I came to Congress to fight for the people of New York. I’m proud to have finally passed a government funding bill that centers the needs of the greatest city in the world.”
