Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the Passage of a Continuing Resolution to Prevent a Government Shutdown
Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement after voting for a Continuing Resolution to keep the federal government funded through November 17, 2023.
“The passage of a Continuing Resolution in the House today to prevent a government shutdown and extend funding at their current levels was a victory for New Yorkers and the American people.
“Under the principled leadership of Leader Jeffries, House Democrats stood united in the face of Republican attempts to cut Social Security, slash public school funding, and criminalize abortion care.
“Ultimately, House Republicans caved to Democrats’ demands of a clean continuing resolution that secured the safety of these vital services and rights that Americans rely on for the next 45 days, but our work is far from over. Congress MUST appropriate additional funding to aid Ukraine in their fight for freedom. Our commitment to democracy at home and abroad cannot be negotiable.
“As we work over the coming weeks to fully fund the government for the next fiscal year, House Republicans must honor the bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act, which two-thirds of Republicans voted for. This episode should serve as a lesson for House Republican leadership: progress will only come from bipartisan collaboration with House Democrats, not bowing to the whims of the MAGA extremists.”
