Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the Public Release of Devon Archer Transcribed Interview

August 3, 2023

“I am encouraged that the transcript of Devon Archer’s interview with the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability has been made public so the American people are able to see for themselves that, in the witness’ own words, ‘nothing of material was discussed,’ between Joe Biden and any of Hunter Biden’s business associates.

“Archer testified that, in relation to Joe Biden’s interactions with Hunter Biden’s associates, ‘It was, you know, just general niceties and, you know, conversation in general, you know, about the geography, about the weather, whatever it may be.’

“Archer also testified that he never witnessed Joe Biden discussing business dealings with any of Hunter Biden’s associates, saying: ‘there was not a specific time that I witnessed a, you know, specific business deal or business dealings or, you know, specifics about any kind of financial stuff.’

“When directly asked ‘Were you ever privy to any conversations between Hunter Biden and Joe Biden in which they discussed how Joe Biden would take official actions on behalf of Hunter Biden?’ Devon Archer answered definitively, ‘No.’

“Archer further confirmed the widely reported fact that the removal of Viktor Shokin as Prosecutor General of Ukraine was ‘a bad thing’ for the interests of Burisma because ‘he was under control’ of the company – directly contradicting Republican claims that Shokin was fired for investigating corruption within the company. Archer also testified that he has ‘no reason to believe’ that then-Vice President Biden was acting in anything other than furtherance of official U.S. anti-corruption policy when advocating for the firing of Shokin.

“Devon Archer’s testimony, which is now public for all to see, should serve as the final nail in the coffin of Congressional Republicans’ bogus fishing expedition for dirt on President Biden as they desperately endeavor to distract from Donald Trump’s third criminal indictment.

“Chairman Comer should immediately cease his misguided effort to waste taxpayer dollars by manufacturing a phony narrative that is undermined at every turn by every single piece of evidence that has come to light.

“Enough is enough. Devon Archer, House Republicans ‘star witness,’ was unequivocal in his testimony: Joe Biden was never involved in and took no official action with regard to Hunter Biden’s business dealings.”
