Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on Republican Effort to Rehash Debunked Burisma Allegations and Hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in Contempt of Congress
Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement after Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability announced they plan to proceed with a motion to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress.
“This FBI document that was reviewed by Chairman Comer and Ranking Member Raskin apparently consists of the same false information about Burisma that was peddled by Rudy Giuliani and Russian agents in 2019 and 2020. In 2020, the Trump DOJ examined these exact allegations and declined to investigate further.
“During the Ukraine impeachment investigation, 17 witnesses, including current and former ambassadors and other experts on Ukraine and Russia at the State Department and the National Security Council, established unequivocally that, consistent with official U.S. and EU policy, then-Vice President Biden urged the removal of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General because he was not investigating and prosecuting corruption, including against companies like Burisma.
“Notwithstanding these undisputed facts, Chairman Comer is once again trying to launder the same specious and false allegations against President Biden through an official committee of the House of Representatives to assist Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and his criminal defense.
“This purely partisan contempt motion sets a dangerous precedent. I urge the majority to think twice before pursuing it.”
