Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the Supreme Court’s Decision in Trump v. United States

New York, NY – “Today is a dark day for American Democracy. The Supreme Court’s ruling gives expansive immunity to a corrupt president who purports to use acts within his official authority to conspire to overturn a lawful election.

“Worse yet, this ruling is perhaps the final nail in the coffin of this rogue Supreme Court’s claim to institutional legitimacy.

“The compromised and conflicted Justices Thomas and Alito should never have heard this case. Chief Justice Roberts has abdicated his duty by failing to police and ensure the impartiality of his court.

“Therefore, it is incumbent upon the Legislative Branch to preserve the constitutional foundation of our democracy as three co-equal branches of government.

“If Speaker of the House Mike Johnson does not bring up my 'Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act' to establish an independent ethics counsel and investigative body within the Supreme Court, then he too will be abdicating his responsibility to the constitution and the American people.

“Our fundamental structure of democratic government hangs in the balance in November’s election. It is time for all American patriots to rise up and vote to protect our nation.”
