Statement From Congressman Dan Goldman on Trump Administration's Dismantling of DOJ's Public Integrity Section

March 11, 2025
New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman today released the following statement after reports that the Trump Administration plans to dismantle the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section (PIN), a venerable, apolitical section that oversees government corruption investigations and federal elections. At least four veteran supervisors from PIN recently resigned rather than sign a motion to dismiss the Eric Adams case.

“As part of his revenge, retribution and grifting Presidency, Donald Trump’s dismantling of the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section (PIN) effectively eliminates a critical nonpartisan section that oversees political corruption cases against officials from both parties, including Donald Trump.

“This decision to dismantle the section charged with maintaining ‘public integrity’ in government by a President who has escalated corruption to a new level is yet another piece of President Trump’s purge of all forms of accountability in the federal government.

“The impact of this particular decision is especially dangerous because it impedes an independent, nonpartisan check on the improper use of the DOJ for political purposes. Instead of career prosecutors handling politically sensitive investigations, they will now be overseen by political appointees of President Trump.

“It also hampers the part of the DOJ that ensures our elections are free and fair, putting the 2026 election at even greater risk of improper interference by political actors working under President Trump.

“In this “get rich quick” and “get out of jail free” presidency, Trump’s corruption is turning the White House into the center of an organized crime operation.”
