Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on the Use of Floyd Bennett Field to Shelter Asylum Seekers
Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today issued the following statement on the agreement between New York and the federal government that will allow the City to use Floyd Bennett Field to shelter incoming migrants and asylum seekers.
“Floyd Bennett Field will provide additional and much needed space to house migrants coming to our city in search of a better life and the American dream. The use of this site is the product of constant and ongoing work between our federal, state, and city officials to manage the unprecedented influx of asylum seekers in a way that lives up to our city’s founding ideals as a place of safety and warmth for those seeking refuge.
“Let’s be clear: while this agreement is welcome progress, it is still far from enough and my colleagues and I will continue to work around the clock in pursuit of more comprehensive, lasting, and common sense solutions that enable our newest neighbors to work and build a life here without the need to indefinitely rely on city and state resources.”
