Statement from Congressman Dan Goldman on Vote Against Congressman Chip Roy’s Voting Bill

July 10, 2024

Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today released the following statement after voting against Congressman Chip Roy’s (TX-21) bill that is designed to prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections, which is already illegal.

“One day after wasting time fighting against technological advances for refrigerators and dishwashers, Republicans today focused their attention on a redundant and unnecessary bill designed to suppress the vote in poor and rural areas around the country.

“Let’s be very clear: the only voter fraud that has affected the outcome of an election in modern times was perpetrated by Republicans.

“Registering and voting in a federal or state election as a non-citizen is already a crime. Republicans know this, yet they continue to ignore facts and peddle conspiracy theories in order to chip away at the credibility of our elections for partisan gain.

“Republicans will not stop attacking our democratic processes. I’m proud to have voted against them today and will continue fighting to protect our elections and the bedrock of our democracy: the right to vote.”
