Statement from Rep. Dan Goldman, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, Councilmember Christopher Marte, and Assemblymember Charles Fall on Trump's Plan to Take Over 9/11 Memorial Museum

September 6, 2025
“As the Twin Towers were burning on 9/11, Donald Trump bragged that his downtown building was now the tallest in Lower Manhattan and later spread Islamophobic hate.

“As President, he has gutted the health program caring for survivors and first responders while embracing 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

“Now, days before the anniversary of that tragic day, he’s apparently considering a federal government takeover of the 9/11 Memorial Museum that was principally funded by New Yorkers for New Yorkers.

“If the President is interested in helping 9/11 survivors and first responders, he should focus on fully funding the World Trade Center Health Program instead of a legally dubious effort to have the federal government seize a non-profit museum dedicated to telling the stories of those who lost their lives and the brave New Yorkers who protected and rebuilt our city.

“As the elected officials who represent the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, we ask that President Trump dig deep to find some respect forthe thousands who died 24 years ago, focus what remains of his energy on ways that he can actually improve the lives of New Yorkers, and put his destructive narcissism to the side by scrapping this misguided idea.”
