"New York Attorney General Letitia James is a fearless and honorable lawyer who has worked tirelessly to protect our democracy and hold Donald Trump and his businesses accountable under the law.  

 

"In contrast, Trump replaced a career prosecutor with his political lackey, Lindsey Halligan, a totally unqualified ambulance chaser, to indict his adversary on bogus charges. In doing so, he is not only attacking all New Yorkers, but he is also directly attacking the very foundation of the rule of law that protects every American. 

 

"At this point, every Republican who remains silent in the face of this unprecedented abuse of power must be viewed as endorsing it. Their cowardice in the face of his authoritarian actions push us ever closer to midnight on American democracy."
