Congressman Dan Goldman Introduces Legislation to Fix World Trade Center Health Program Funding Shortfall

February 20, 2025
Updates

Congressman Dan Goldman introduced the ‘9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act’ alongside Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), which would provide permanent and mandatory funding for the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) and update an outdated funding formula to prevent a future funding shortfall, ensuring survivors and first responders don’t lose access to care.

The 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act:

1. Updates funding formula to avert impending shortfall and ensure adequate funding until the program expires in 2090.
2. Increases funding for data collection and research on 9/11- related health conditions.
3. Allows qualified mental health providers to conduct evaluations and certify 9/11-related mental health conditions for program members.
4. Increases time period for evaluating and adding health conditions to the list covered by the program.
5. Requires a report to Congress evaluating the budgetary needs of the Program
6. Makes certain technical corrections to the current statute.

Congressman Goldman will continue fighting for all those impacted by the 9/11 terror attacks to be covered by the World Trade Center Health Program. In December 2023, the Congressman secured $676 million to address funding shortfalls in the WTCHP budget and ensure that all first responders to the Pentagon and Shanksville attacks were covered by the program as well.
