Congressman Dan Goldman Pushes to Expand Access to Family and Medical Leave Protections
Congressman Dan Goldman joined Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) and Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) in introducing the ‘Job Protection Act,’ which would expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to millions of workers who are currently unable to take time off to care for themselves or their families. Nearly 2.6 million workers every year decline to take family or medical leave out of fear that they will lose their jobs due to gaps in FMLA coverage.
The legislation would protect part-time employees and those with multiple jobs by removing the requirement that they work 1,250 hours at a single workplace before qualifying for coverage. It would also expand the FMLA to small business employees by reducing the current FMLA coverage threshold from 50 employees to one employee.
Congressman Goldman remains committed to protecting the rights of American workers. In October 2024, the Congressman cosponsored the ‘National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights’ to extend common workplace rights and protections to the 2.2 million domestic workers in the United States who are currently excluded from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and other key labor and safety laws that the majority of the workforce relies on.
