Congressman Dan Goldman Pushes for Greater Safety Standards for E-Bike Lithium-Ion Batteries

Congressman Dan Goldman joined Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) in introducing the ‘Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act,’ which would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to establish safety standards for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in micro mobility devices, such as electric scooters and bikes, addressing the fire risk posed by these batteries. 

Congressman Goldman is committed to advancing clean energy innovations that will protect the environment and improve consumer safety. In March 2023, the Congressman cosponsored the ‘Safe Charging Electric Bikes and Scooters Act,’ which would ensure access to safe charging stations with fireproofing measures in place. This legislation would also enact public outreach to encourage the purchasing of safety tested lithium-ion batteries, as well as safe storage, and timely replacement of the batteries, all of which reduce the risk of explosions and fires.
