Congressman Dan Goldman Works to Protect the Department of Education
Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) joined Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) in introducing the ‘Department of Education Protection Act,’ which would shield the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) from efforts to dismantle the agency and ensure every student receives the free and appropriate education they deserve.
The legislation would prohibit the use of appropriated funds to decentralize, reduce the staffing level of, or alter the responsibilities, structure, authority, or functionality of the DOE. This bill also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the current organization of the Department of Education and reiterates the fundamental role of Congress in shaping and reshaping the agency.
Congressman Dan Goldman is committed to protecting and uplifting the critical offices within Department of Education. In May 2024, he introduced the ‘Showing Up for Students Act,’ which would provide $280 million in additional funding for the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at DOE. The OCR is responsible for protecting the civil rights of students in American schools, including from incidents related to antisemitism and other shared ancestry and religious discrimination.
