Congressman Dan Goldman Hosts New York Students Impacted by Gun Violence at Congressional Dads Caucus Gun Violence Prevention Task Force
Students Shared Their Firsthand Experience with Gun Violence Epidemic, Effect on Their Lives

Washington, DC – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today hosted students, teachers, and administrators from across New York City at the Congressional Dads Caucus to share how their experiences with gun violence have impacted their lives. The students came to D.C. with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence as participants of their school-based gun violence prevention program: ReAction.
As Chair of the Dads Caucus Gun Violence Prevention Working Group, Congressman Goldman is committed to protecting children from the gun violence epidemic. In 2024 so far, gun violence has taken the lives of 411 children and injured an additional 1,001 children. For three years in a row, gun violence has been the leading cause of death for children in the United States.
“The harrowing stories the students shared today resonate deeply with any parent who worries about whether their children will come home from school,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “As a father of five, hearing their experiences was heartbreaking. I applaud every single one of these students for their bravery and their willingness to use their voice to impact change. I hope that everyone, especially my Republican colleagues, takes a moment to listen to their experiences. Our children are living in fear of gun violence every single day. It is up to us to put an end to this uniquely American tragedy.”
At the Dads Caucus General Member Meeting, teachers and administrators shared how gun violence has impacted their school communities. In one particular story, a teacher shared how groups like New Yorkers Against Violence were able to support the school community after a shooting. The students shared their firsthand experience with gun violence their communities and they expressed how Congress can continue to make ending the gun violence epidemic a priority.
Congressman Goldman is committed to not only preventing deaths and injuries from gun violence but also providing additional support to those who have been caught in the crossfires of the gun violence epidemic.
In January, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the ‘Resources for Victims of Gun Violence Act,’ which would aid survivors of gun violence in navigating the difficult-to-find resources and connect them with victim assistance professionals.
In April of 2023, Congressman Goldman joined Congressman Maxwell Frost (FL-10) to call for the creation of a federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Following their call, the Biden Administration established the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. This new office, overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris, focuses on implementing executive and legislative action, including the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
In November of 2023, Congressman Goldman cosponsored the ‘Responsible Firearms Marketing Act,’ which would direct the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to study the dangers of deceptive advertising practices utilized by the gun industry.
Congressman Goldman is a Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and is Chair of the Dads Caucus Gun Violence Prevention Working Group.
