NEW YORK, NY — Congressmembers Dan Goldman (NY-10), along with Assemblymember Grace Lee and Councilmember Susan Zhuang, held a press conference today to highlight the devastating impact of SNAP cuts included in the Republicans’ "Big Ugly" Reconciliation Bill. They condemned the proposed cuts as a direct threat to AAPI small businesses, vulnerable New Yorkers, and already-strained food banks across the city.

NEW YORK, NY — Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) was once again illegally denied access to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn today, where more than 100 immigrants are currently being held. Last week, Representatives Goldman, Espaillat, and Velázquez were blocked from touring the facility, with Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials promising to accommodate a tour of the facility if given advanced notice of a visit. Congressman Goldman gave BOP advanced notice of today's visit on Friday, August 8th, yet BOP once again refused to allow the Congressman to inspect the facility without providing an explanation. Prior notice is not required under Section 527(a) of the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, which grants Members of Congress the authority to inspect any facility being used by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain or house immigrants.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today celebrated the Senate’s passage of his bipartisan ‘Chief Herbert D. Proffitt Act,’ which would ensure the families of law enforcement officers who are killed as a result of their work on behalf of their communities are not unjustly denied benefits due to arbitrary retirement status restrictions. Under current law, families of officers who have retired but are later targeted and killed because of their past service are denied death benefits under the Public Safety Officers’ (PSOB) program. The unanimous Senate vote sets the legislation on a glide path to final passage by the House when members come back in session in September. Congressman Goldman introduced the legislation with Congressman Barr (KY-06) in February.

“For months, masked, unidentified ICE agents have been illegally detaining hundreds of non-violent, law-abiding immigrants and holding them for days or weeks in federal facilities in my district without beds, showers, sufficient food, or proper medical care.
